I can only describe your Singapore Studies lessons as unconventional. Never one to bore us with daunting chunks of texts and mind-numbing statistics, you’d always perk things up with activities and unique mnemonics so that we’d be able to better understand certain concepts and grasp their significance.
You strike a delicate balance between monotonous humdrum and too-much-fluffy-fun. I’m not alone — the class shares my sentiments. I also like how you’d always encourage us to look beyond the surface of things. One example I particularly remember was that time you told us that conflicts are almost never as simple as they seem. Race and religion rarely turn out to be the root cause of problems, and they are usually used as a mere excuse to cover up for the less idealistic and probably more uneasy truth. You dislike superficial arguments as much as I do, and I really am thankful for all the times you told me unabashedly whenever my arguments were just bad. Thank you for your unique perspective on things and opening our minds!
